7 Wall Sconces For A Cozy Bedroom
The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.
We’ve researched and lived with sustainable and nontoxic furniture in our homes for years — these are our favorite brands for wall sconces that are made with thoughtful materials and built to last.
Adding or changing up the lighting in your home can truly transform your space. In fact, light can have a huge impact on our mood, and add warmth and dimension to our homes — and in turn, help us feel more like ourselves. Adding wall sconces around a painting or mirror can warm up the space and literally make us feel better, and finding wall sconces that are made with natural, nontoxic, and high-quality materials will make us feel good about purchasing them too.
Why should you consider sustainable, nontoxic wall sconces?
As with any furniture and home decor, it’s important to consider sustainable and nontoxic wall sconces because the materials we bring into our home have an impact on both our home environments and the earth. Sustainable wall sconces are made with natural, recycled, and responsibly sourced materials, like wood, ceramics, rattan, bamboo, or recycled brass. And nontoxic wall sconces aren’t treated with any harsh chemicals that could release gases and particles into your home.
What should you think about when purchasing a wall sconce?
Of course, you want to think about the design of the wall sconce with your space. Do you want one or two? Are you having the sconces bookend a painting, mirror, or your bed? Then you’d want two. If you’re putting it next to a door or in a corner, you might only opt for one. The photos in this guide offer some great inspiration for how to style your sconce!
But design is only one factor. You also want to consider whether you are going to purchase a plugin sconce or one that’s directly wired in-wall. It’s best to opt for a plug-in sconce if you’re renting or you want the aesthetic of the cord hanging down. These also are usually turned on by a switch directly on the cord, so if you don’t want to have your sconce powered by a light switch on the wall, a plug-in option might be best for you. Opt for a sconce that’s wired in-wall if you want a more permanent solution and/or you’re a homeowner looking to add some lighting to your space. These usually require a professional electrician to install, so keep that in mind.
What are the relevant certifications?
While there aren’t many relevant certifications specifically geared toward wall sconces, there are certifications to look for to ensure the products are ethically made, like Fair Trade Certified, a third-party certification that verifies the ethical practices of factories. Another thing to look for when shopping is if something is handmade in the U.S., because these are often products created by artisans and produced in small batches. Several of the sconces on this list fall into this category.
