My Honest Review Of Avocado’s Mattress Topper (2025)
Summary: I had no idea a mattress could be so comfortable until I tried Avocado’s Eco Organic Mattress Topper. I tried both their medium and plush — and I found both offer something for different kinds of sleepers. I loved the comfort, temperature control, and mattress protection this topper offers, and it’s now a staple in my bedding lineup. If you’re looking to upgrade or tailor your existing mattress without replacing it, this topper is an ideal option.
What I Love:
- Since sleeping with an Avocado topper, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my sleep. I’ve been sleeping more deeply and am overall more comfortable and supported.
- Avocado’s Eco Organic toppers can help regulate temperature, and I’ve noticed fewer temperature shifts throughout the night.
- I have peace of mind knowing my mattress has an added layer of protection to help it last many more years.
Things To Keep In Mind:
- Toppers add height to your mattress. Our sheets can no longer fully cover the mattress with the 3-inch topper, so consider investing in deep-pocket sheets for a better fit. Luckily, Avocado’s toppers come in 2- or 3-inch heights, so you can temper the height.
- If you decide to stop using your topper, there isn’t a good way to store it.
If you’re like me, you might have had the same thought I’ve had, that mattress toppers were just for covering an old or uncomfortable mattress. Why would I need a topper for my Just Fine mattress? Well, as I’ve learned, there are several reasons to invest in a topper besides the dreamy feel they add to your bed!
“There are several reasons to invest in a topper besides the dreamy feel they add to your bed!”
It’s true that a mattress topper is an easy way to upgrade your bed without replacing your entire mattress. Many people also use them to extend the life of an older mattress or to customize comfort on a shared bed — and in temporary spaces like guest rooms or rentals, they can completely transform a basic mattress into something your guests will compliment you about in the morning over breakfast.
For your own home, Avocado’s Eco Organic toppers are the perfect, natural solution for softening a firm bed, easing pressure points, or making your sleep surface cooler. Made from organic latex and cotton, they support both your comfort and the environment. They’re great for naturally regulating temperature, making them ideal for individuals who tend to sleep hot. Perfect for a safe and comfy upgrade. ☁️

Avocado’s sustainability and certifications
Avocado shines with its open approach to environmental efforts and product quality. The laundry list of certifications they hold is impressive, starting with their aforementioned B Corp and Climate Neutral certifications
Avocado’s California factory is one of the few with a GOTS certification, which is recognized under the USDA’s National Organic Program. This is a rare honor, which means they passed tough tests to show their products meet organic manufacturing standards.

In this project, they innovate by upcycling and repurposing materials. They also ensure that at least 85% of their waste is kept out of landfills. This project is another incredible achievement and further shows Avocado’s dedication to caring for the planet.
All that to say, I was elated to test their GREENGUARD Gold-certified organic mattress toppers. I tried both the medium and plush topper in 3-inch and 2-inch. Below are my notes and photos from my experience!
Eco Organic Mattress Topper, Plush, 3-inch | $449 (Queen)
After we first placed the order, the toppers arrived in only a few days! My shipment came in large, heavy boxes that indicated their quality, and also required a strong person to bring them inside — specifically, my husband. 😉
We decided to start our mattress topper journey with the Plush topper in a 3-inch thickness. The added softness and taller height are more ideal for side sleepers, which my husband and I both are. To take it out, we opened the box from the top — inside was our topper rolled up with airtight plastic. Then we turned it on its side and slid it onto the bed. When we cut it open, it immediately expanded and rolled itself out. It was a very interactive and easy experience!
“The added softness and taller height are more ideal for side sleepers, which my husband and I both are.”
The only things left from the package were the box and a little bit of plastic wrap that covered the topper. I was very impressed by how easy it was to unbox and how little trash was left over.

When we went to make our bed, we discovered that our mattress cover and sheets no longer fit over the entire topper and mattress. We were relieved to see that our blankets still covered both and hid the mattress that’s now exposed. This is an important thing to keep in mind when considering investing in a topper. What I now know is you need to have deep-pocket sheets for your mattress and topper that are designed for taller mattresses. You can even add Avocado organic sheets made to cover a mattress topper and a mattress to your order. (Our editors are huge fans of Avo’s bedding.)
“We both sank into our new topper’s gentle, buoyant comfort and felt our whole bodies exhale.”
No matter the sheets, that first night, my husband and I couldn’t wait to hop into bed. We both sank into our new topper’s gentle, buoyant comfort and felt our whole bodies exhale.
I didn’t realize a mattress topper could make such a difference until I tried Avocado’s 3-inch Plush Organic Mattress Topper. It instantly added an extra layer of softness to my bed that I didn’t know I needed. If you’re a side sleeper like me, their Plush is ideal. It holds your body in a way that helps it to fully relax, and I’ve been sleeping more deeply than ever. It holds the body so that when you’re moving — especially on your side — it continues to contour your shape.

The Plush Eco Organic topper is made from FSC®-certified Pure Talalay latex. I love this material! It’s breathable, soft, and supportive all at once. It wraps around your body, maintains your spine in a supportive position, and allows air to flow through to prevent overheating. For me, it’s the easiest way to make my bed cozier. I also love that the materials are sustainably sourced and built to last.
Eco Organic Mattress Topper, Medium, 2-inch | $269 (Queen)
We spent several nights on the plush, then switched to the 2-inch Medium organic latex topper. This one is ideal for back and stomach sleepers. We were happy to see that our sheets and mattress cover fit well around the mattress and the shorter topper while making the bed.

There is a noticeable difference in feel between the Plush and the Medium. The Medium feels a lot firmer and has less buoyancy but still provides excellent comfort and support. Its medium firmness offers support without being too hard. This is ideal for those who want a slightly softer mattress while still enjoying stable, grounded support.
“The Medium feels a lot firmer and has less buoyancy but still provides excellent comfort and support.”
It’s made from GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex and wrapped in a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover, so everything that’s touching your skin (and supporting you underneath) is free from harsh chemicals and synthetics. The latex comes from responsibly managed, FSC-certified sources, and like the plush, it helps regulate temperature while you sleep. This is an excellent option that’s slightly more affordable for those who prefer a firmer feel and less fuss with deep-pocket sheets!

My final thoughts
Avocado’s mattress toppers have completely reshaped my understanding of mattress comfort. We have more peace of mind knowing our mattress will last longer and be more protected for years to come.
When considering investing in a mattress topper with Avocado, they offer a 1-year sleep trial and a 10-year limited warranty. This is pretty incredible considering how many mattresses end up in the landfill. Having this warranty allows the time and space needed to truly enjoy your topper and decide if it’s right for you.

We’ll most likely stick with the 2-inch topper, which fits our sheets and doesn’t add too much height to our already tall mattress — but both are incredible options for giving your mattress an upgrade without paying for a whole new one. If you’re dreaming of a better bed, these toppers are a lovely, thoughtful solution.
